Greedy Wife Kills Husband
Residents of Adefowope Street, off Beach Road,in Lagos are divided over the reasons that couldhave made a woman to push her husband fromthe balcony of their apartment in a one-storeybuilding on Valentine’s Day.The woman, identified as Onyinyechi, in anger pushed her husband,George, from the storey building, anact that led to the husband’s death.While some residents claimed that Onyinyechi,who is a teacher in a private school in the area,was angry that her husband did not give her aValentine’s treat on a day when most loversmade out time to celebrate each other, otherresidents said the couple was quarrelling overmoney…A man, who claimed to be a close friend of thedeceased, however, insisted that the cause ofthe couple’s fight and misunderstandingbordered on plans for Valentine’s Day.Speaking on the condition of anonymity, theman said, “George returned home in theevening of Valentine’s Day, a time the wife feltwas already too late to go for an outing. She gotangry and it resulted in a fight.”Another source, a close relationship with thefamily, however, said the cause of the fight wasmoney.He said, “A family friend had given Georgemoney to give to his wife as gift for theirnewborn baby. George did not only keep themoney to himself, he also did not tell his wifeabout it. Onyinyechi later met the man, whoasked her if she got the gift he sent through herhusband. She was not only surprised, butfurious that George could keep such a thingfrom her. It was in the process of asking himabout it on the evening of Valentine’s Day thatthe fight started.”A neighbour, who also spoke to Punch on thecondition of anonymity, explained that, “OnSaturday, at about 4pm, my daughter rushedinside my apartment where I was sleeping towake me up that Iyawo (Onyinyechi) and herhusband were fighting upstairs.“As she was still explaining to me,I heard asound of something falling. I rushed out only todiscover that it was my neighbour, George. Istarted screaming for help and other neighboursrushed in to a’s’sist me. We got a tricycle andrushed him to a hospital.“The wife, however, remained upstairs in herapartment. She didn’t bother to come down to a’s’sist us… George was certified dead at thehospital and we couldn’t take him to themortuary without his family’s consent, so, webrought him back home and called his familymembers.”Another neighbour, who identified herself asMama Ifeoma, who was part of the people thattook George to the hospital, said the doctordiscovered a cut in his head.She said the doctor explained that the injurycould be as a result of an object that must havebeen used to hit him on the head.She said, “The doctor told us that George musthave been dead before he was pushed downfrom the balcony.”At the moment, Onyinyechi had escaped to hertown in Nnewi, Anambra State with her daughter.
